Celebrate Black Brilliance, Student Voice, and Freedom Fighters this Juneteenth

It’s Juneteenth and there’s so much to celebrate. Check out the upcoming celebrations below.

Student Contest

BLM Grassroots Long Beach is proud to sponsor this year’s Student Art, Essay, and Spoken Word Contest as part of the Juneteenth at King Park celebration.

This contest gives young people an opportunity to reflect on Juneteenth, Black liberation, creativity, history, and the future they want to help build. Through art, writing, and spoken word, students are using their voices to honor the struggle for freedom while imagining new possibilities for our communities. Learn more.

At this year’s celebration, Student Award recipients will be recognized as well as local Freedom Fighters whose leadership, courage, organizing, advocacy, and service continue to move Long Beach toward justice.

These awards remind us that liberation work is intergenerational. Our students carry vision. Our elders and community leaders carry wisdom. Together, we carry the work forward.
