Black Women Are Divine

Black Women Are Divine is a national call to Black women across the world to reclaim their divinity in the names of #BreonnaTaylor, #SandraBland, #WakieshaWilson and all Black women whose lives were stolen by state-sanctioned violence. Founded by BLM Grassroots during Women's History Month, we celebrate Black women in Long Beach by lifting up local women who are making a difference in our community and hosting an in-person healing event for Black women each year.

2026 Recap

On April 4, we gathered for our annual Black Women Are Divine event, in honor of Breonna Taylor. Our Long Beach community came together at BLU’ Arts & Wellness Gallery for an afternoon filled with joy, connection, and deep appreciation for Black women.

From music and performances to shared laughter over brunch, the day reflected the beauty, brilliance, and power within our community. We honored elders, celebrated local healers/wellness practitioners, and created space for reflection and through the Inspired By Her activity, the Sister Swap exchange table, line dancing, a sound bowl experience, spoken word and more.

We also showed up in support of the Long Beach Black Infant Health Program, donating essential items for Black mothers and babies as an act of care beyond the event.

What began as remembrance became a celebration of life, legacy, and togetherness. Thank you to everyone who made it so meaningful. We’re still carrying that joy with us.
