Our 2026 Black Women Are Divine event was a beautiful celebration of love and community!
On April 4, we gathered for our annual Black Women Are Divine event, in honor of the life of Breonna Taylor. What unfolded at Long Beach’s BLU’ Arts & Wellness Gallery was more than an event. It was a powerful expression of love, remembrance, and community.
In our largest Black Women Are Divine gathering yet, the Long Beach community came together in a big way for an afternoon filled with joy, connection, and deep appreciation for Black women. From DJ CJ’s music to the shared conversation and laughter over a delicious brunch by Chef Quail, every moment reflected the beauty, brilliance, and sacred power that lives within our community.
We loved on our elders and our Black Neighborhood Tenant Council tenant leaders and quite literally gave them their flowers. We honored incredible local healers / wellness practitioners who show up every day to support our collective wellbeing: Queen Hollins, Roz Kumari, Rekara Gage, Tiffany Williams-Parra and Tracy Williams (check them out below).
We created space for reflection, connection, and an exhale through offerings like the Inspired By Her activity, the Sister Swap, spoken word by Kuahmel, line dancing with Lance, and a sound bowl experience with Lloyd Leary. A special thanks to poet P.W. for serving as emcee throughout the event. The energy in the room was vibrant, grounding, and full of care.
There were moments of laughter and moments of stillness. Moments where stories were shared, and moments where a simple look or hug said everything. It was a beautiful experience and space where Black women could be seen, held, and celebrated fully.
Together, we also showed up in support of the Long Beach Black Infant Health Program, who is facing budget cuts by the City. Thank you to everyone who donated essential items for new Black mothers and babies. It was a powerful reminder that our care for one another extends beyond a single gathering and into how we show up for our community every day.
What began as a day of remembrance became a celebration of life, legacy, and togetherness.
To everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, and supported in any way, thank you. You helped create something meaningful and lasting.
We’re still carrying that joy with us. And we’re building on it. To continue building community, we are launching our Divine Woman Wellness Series, a six-month journey of continued connection, healing, and growth for Black women. We also are kicking off our Love Our Mothers. Protect Our Babies campaign, to advocate for a fully funded Long Beach Black Infant Health Program in our city. See more information below and contact us if you’d like to support planning.
Until then, stay close. There is more to come, and we need you to be part of what we’re building together.
Black Love, y’all!
