Black Neighborhood Tenant Council is back this month in North Long Beach
At the Black Neighborhood Tenant Council, we believe housing is a human right and that the people most impacted by what’s happening in our neighborhoods deserve to understand the system and help shape what comes next.
Right now, a lot of us are feeling the pressure.
Rent keeps rising. Longtime neighbors are moving away. Buildings are changing hands. Entire neighborhoods are shifting faster than many families can keep up with. And too often, people are left trying to make sense of decisions that seem distant from everyday life, even though those decisions affect where we live, what we can afford, and whether we get to stay rooted in our communities.
What’s clear is that local politics affect our daily lives more than most people realize.
The people elected to local office help shape housing policy, renter protections, development decisions, city budgets, and more. Those decisions show up on our blocks, in our buildings, and in our bank accounts.
That’s why this month’s Black Neighborhood Tenant Council meeting is focused on the upcoming elections and voter rights.
We’ll gather to break things down together, ask questions, and better understand how local government impacts renters and Black communities in Long Beach. We’ll talk about why voting matters locally, how policy gets shaped, and what it means to stay informed and engaged beyond election season.
BNTC is not a lecture. It’s a community space rooted in connection, learning, and collective action. You do not need to come in knowing everything already. We hope you will come to be part of this important conversation.
